2010, 4 CYL. THUNDER CAR RULES

Rear Wheel Drive:
No front wheel drive, convertibles, four wheel drive, SAAB, or Jeep type vehicles allowed! All cars must be stock wheel base, maximum stock wheel base of 105”.

1) Roll Cage Bracing: Minimum of 1 1/2” OD-.095 wall tubing must be used. Roll cage must be welded securely to frame with a 4-point design. Uni-body cars are allowed frame bracing. Roll cage must extend from front door opening to rear of the door opening. 2 bars are allowed to be welded to plates (4”x4”x1/8” thick) on the trunk floor area between the rear sear and the tail-light mounting (inside body). No cross bracing allowed at any point behind the driver! Forward bars are allowed. Only to the inside of the strut tower, on vehicles equipped with strut type suspensions. On cars without strut without strut type suspension, the bars may be mounted to the inner fender above the upper control arm. Vehicles in this class may not have any form of sub frame (front or back) that ties into the roll cage. All engine compartments must be fully enclosed (I.E. complete inner radiator support. If rub rails, will not have sharp edges. Removable rails are permitted as long as they bolt to the roll cage on the inside of the body. Maximum diameter is 1”. A minimum of three maximum of five, 3/8” rebar to run from top of roll cage bar to dash tie in bar.
2) Bodies: No sheet metal allowed. No sheet metal screws allowed! Cars must be strictly stock. No cutting, chopping, or shortening allowed, except chopping of interior door panel for roll cage clearance. No cutting or shortening of roofs. Trunk & hood lids may also be stripped. Hood must be kept in place by secure quick release pins. Body metal must be in place at start of race. All glass and lights must be removed. All doors must be welded or bolted shut. No after market spoilers of any kind are allowed. Stock metal only. Bumpers should be tied into body panel by steel plates to avoid getting hooked. All bumpers must be securely fastened to vehicle and welded solid to chassis so that it will not be knocked off the car on impact. No sharp edges! Loss of any body part, including bumper, must leave track immediately. No holes allowed in hood. All holes in front and rear firewalls must be covered. Raked, modified roof body lines are not allowed. Racing weight will be 2350lbs.
3) Interiors: Rear seat cushions must be removed. Rear seat shelf must be left in as fire stop. The stock steer unaltered floor pan, firewalls, trunk, trunk floor and all wheel wells must be retained. Trunk floor may be altered for safe insertion of the fuel cell, and no alterations of trunk area allowed. Seat must be aluminum racing seat. Back seat must be tied into roll cage. Built up interiors of any kind may not extend back past the seat. No mirrors allowed. No Plexiglas anywhere on body. Lexan may be used for visors, maximum of 6” on rear side windows.
4) Suspension: No modifying of the suspension. Parts must remain absolutely stock for that make and model car. Only rubber spacers allowed. No others spacers (example: Lumber, metal, chains, etc.) may be used to alter the suspension of the car. Changing of right front to heavier spring is allowed. Safety chains are allowed on car anywhere. No cutting any suspension except top of strut tower. Shifting top strut is allowed as long as it stays within original strut tower. Cutting the strut tower for adjustment is allowed. Thunder pickups are aloud front sway bars.
5) Tires and Wheels: All wheels must be reinforced to prevent their loss. Tires must be stock passenger tires only. No racing DOT. Truck, studded, recap, racing, or trick gum tires of any kind allowed! No aluminum, trick or bead lock wheels allowed, Steel wheels maximum 8” allowed. 3” rim minimum offset or rear spacing permitted. 60 or 70 series tire with 14” maximum rim diameter. Racing wheels allowed 8” tread width on tires with a ½” tolerance measured from edge of tire tread. Tire grooving is allowed. Maximum tire size 205-70-14.
6) Engine: The engine must be strictly stock for that make and model and in its original mount no motor mix/match. Solid motor mount allowed in its original mount position. Any stock exhaust system is expectable, must be maximum of 12” in front of rear tire. A single exhaust system will run under the car, through a race muffler & exit the car in front of the right rear. The exhaust will exit the car in a pipe of 2”inside diameter. The exhaust may be run through the passenger side door as long as it is enclosed in sheet metal. No shaving head, porting, polishing, turbo, or engine changing. Replacement cams must meet track specification. Adjustable cam pulleys are permitted. Under drive pulleys are permitted to run water pump. Valve sizes must remain stock. Stock type pistons only, no after market pistons allowed. No polishing or cutting balancing of rotating assemble.

8) Clutch: All cars must have a 1/8” steel plate or mine bolts above the bell housing. Factory bell housing is mandatory and housing must have inspection hole. Inspection hole must be 1”x 3” between starter ring and the transmission to see the clutch. The Speedway will not be responsible for injuries or damages caused by flywheel explosions, etc. Flywheel specifications are a minimum of 15lbs.
9) Ignition: No after market components or MSD Boxes. Must have a master disconnect switch clearly marked, on rear deck with orange or red marking, behind driver, near battery.
10) Drive Train: Stock rear end, transmission, clutch and flywheel only. Stock drive train only. Stock rear housing for make and model of car. Rear may have spider gears welded. No spools of any kind allowed. Two drive shaft loops mandatory and must completely encircle the driveshaft. Loops must be no more than 8” from rear of front universal & 8” from front of rear universal.
11) Carburetors: Factory stock carburetors only. No cutting except choke assembly may be removed. No carburetor spacers. No fuel injection.
12) Fuel Cell (Gas Tank): Maximum 15 gallon fuel cell. Fuel cells in trunk must be enclosed with metal. Racing fuel is allowed. No alcohol or additives are allowed. Fuel testing may be done at the discretion of the track tech. If fuel is found to be illegal you will lose payout & points for that race. You will also be fined $25.00. Any electric fuel pump will have a safety switch and a safety oil switch. Anyone running an alternator must have a kill switch for the alternator. All switches must be clearly marked and reachable from the driver’s seat.
13) Air Cleaners: Any air cleaner system is allowed as long as it’s not air induction. No air induction, including auxiliary pumps, fans or ice packs.
14) Brakes: 3-Wheel brakes must be in good working order at all times. Stock brake system in stock mounting position must be used for make and model of car being used. No after market in-line proportioning valves allowed.
15) Safety: Race seats are mandatory! All seats must be mounted on roll cage located in front of doorpost and to the left of drive shaft tunnel. Safety belts are mandatory and must be mounted to roll cage. Race approved 4-point minimum racing belts in good condition with one release for all belts required. Driver side window must have race approved nylon net in good condition. 12oz. ABC extinguisher mandatory and easily accessible and useable by driver. NOTE: Check general rules for helmet suit and neck brace rules.
16) Miscellaneous: Battery may be moved inside car and enclosed in a metal box securely fastened in a metal framework to the car. No bungee straps. Any loss of a wheel requires that you immediately leave the track. Rupture of a gas tank and or loss of gas will result in immediate black flag. All weights must be securely bolted with lock nits, double nuts, or nuts with cotter keys. Weights must be painted white and have your car number painted on them. No horns or two-way radios. All cars must be presentable in bodywork, craftsmanship and paint. The car numbers must be clearly displayed on the roof and both sides of the doors at all times. Numbers must be no less than 18” tall and 2” wide. If a letter is used it must be 9”x2” minimum. A plate with a minimum 6” number will be required on the right hand corner of headlight. Lettering must be legible & outlined. (If scorers can’t read your number you will not be scored).
17) Tech Item: Any tech item listed. Tech man may look at any parts visible and or associated with this section of motor. Any refusal of track tech of money tech is automatic loss of accumulated points for that night and $100.00 fine to be paid before returning to track premises. All pretests must be done within 5 minutes of checkered flag. By the top 10 finishers only and in that consecutive order starting with the feature winner. 1st offense: if found illegal a fine of the initial tech fee not to exceed $100.00 must be paid to track before offender may re-enter pit area and loss of any pay out for that event (this is for both track tech & protest tech). 2nd offense loss of total year accumulated points and bard from that class for that year!!!! Fines & suspension include car, driver, & car owner.

NOTE: ANYTHING NOT COVERED IN THESE SPECIFICATIONS WILL BE TO THE DESECRATION OF THE TRACK TECHNICAL PERSONNEL WITH OUT RECOURSE FROM ANY DRIVER OR OWNER. ALL SPECIFICATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO REVISION.
